Hussemann, Herbert J.
Herbert J. Hussemann, 91, passed away at his home in Belle Plaine on Monday, Sept. 17, 2012.
Herbert was born Nov. 13, 1920. Herbert served his country in the Army in World War II. Herbert owned a milk route and drove
truck for years and then owned farms, all in Gridley, Ill. He then retired to Inverness, Fla.
Herbert is survived by his wife of 21 years, Velma J. Hussemann, Belle Plaine; two sons, Herbie (Shirley) Hussemann Jr. of Dandridge, Tenn., and Robert (Pat) Hussemann of Bloomington, Ill.; two stepdaughters, M. Dee (Tom) Ritter of Belle Plaine and Joan Ledeker of Cedar Rapids; and a stepson, Leslie (Sharon) Ledeker of Jay, Okla. He leaves six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, 10 stepgrandchildren, 25 stepgreat-grandchildren and six stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Herbert was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Pfiffinger Hussemann; his father, Andrew Hussemann; two brothers, Ed and Bob Hussemann; a sister, Viola; his first wife, Marjorie; one son, Ronald; a great-grandson and two stepgreat-grandsons.
He was cared for the last eight years of his life by his loving stepgranddaughter, Nickcole (Matt) DeJoode of Belle Plaine.
Herbert enjoyed golf, bowling, gardening and watching the trains go through Belle Plaine.
He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
A graveside memorial service is planned in Gridley, Ill., at a later date.
