Husmann, Merlin
Merlin Husmann, 72, of Monticello, died Sunday, June 12, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, from complications following heart surgery. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 16, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Monticello, with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Darryl Larson will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.

Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Mary; three children, Tami (Charlie Takes), Pam (Brian McDonald) both of Monticello, and Alan (Angie) Swansea of South Carolina; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Stutt (Marvin Jansen) and Helen Breitbach; and a brother, Allen, all of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Kenneth, Robert, LaVerne and John; and a sister, Marie Lubben.
Melin Otto Husmann was born Oct. 2, 1938, at Monticello, Iowa. He was the son of John F. and Anna Otten Husmann. He received his early education in the Black Oak School and completed his education in the Anamosa Community Schools. Merlin then started in his life work as a truck driver He first started driving for Alan Siebels in Anamosa, hauling hogs or lime. Merlin married Mary Allamand on Feb. 4, 1961, at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. Merlin was then employed at the Stone City Quarry. He drove a gas truck for Jones County Oil for a number of years. Merlin then went to work at the Martelle Coop for 22 years, where he drove a truck and also sprayed crops. Following his retirement, he drove for Great Plains Gas Co. and was currently driving for Behrends Quarry.
Merlin enjoyed being outdoors. He enjoyed going for a drive in the car on Sundays and working in his yard or garden. He was a devoted dad, grandpa and great-grandpa.
The Husmann family would like to thank the doctors and nurses for their care and kindness during Merlin's illness.
