Humphries, Marjorie Jean
Mrs. Marjorie Jean Humphries, 86, of New London, died Monday, April 1, 2013, at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington.
She was born Oct. 31, 1926, at Burlington, Iowa, to Ben and Mabel Longshore Murray. She married Allan Gerst and they were divorced, she then married John Humphries, who preceded her in death.
She attended Oakville schools and was then employed at Sylvania in Burlington, the Mental Health Institute in Mount Pleasant and retired from the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. She enjoyed reading, quilting, crossword puzzles and her dogs.
She is survived by one son, Marlan Gerst (Phyllis) of Burlington; three daughters, Karen Johnson (Butch) of Mount Pleasant, Janice Gilleard (Gale) of New London, with whom she made her home and Lynette Moore (Jesse) of Thayer, Mo.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; second husband; and one sister, Nellie Longshore.
According to her wishes she has been cremated and private family inurnment will be held in Forest Home Cemetery, Mount Pleasant.
A memorial has been established.
