Hughes, Milton B.
Milton B. Hughes, 80, of Cascade, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a wake service will be held at 4:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade, with full military honors afforded by Cascade American Legion Post 528.
Milton was born March 22, 1931, in Cascade, Iowa, son of Henry P. and Marcella (Callahan) Hughes. He was a 1950 graduate of St. Martin's High School in Cascade. On Aug. 26, 1961, he was united in marriage to Rosalie E. Garrett at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clinton. He farmed in the Temple Hill area until his retirement. He was an Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.
He was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade, the Cascade Knights of Columbus Council No. 930, for which he served as past Grand Knight, a member of Cascade American Legion Post 528, and a member of the 4th degree Dubourg Assembly Council 1573. He served on the board of directors of the Cascade Mutual Insurance, the Jones County Cattlemen's Association and the Jones County Pork Producers.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalie Hughes of Cascade; children, Angela (Greg) Wink of Monticello, Thomas Hughes of Cascade, Kathleen (David) Hughes-Hoagland of Anamosa and Stephen (Stephanie) Hughes of Oak Park, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Loras (Sally) Hughes of Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Beth Gerken; and two brothers, Alfred and Cletus Hughes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Aquin School System in Cascade or the Alfred Hughes memorial at Divine Word Seminary in Epworth.
