Hughes, Cletus J.
Cletus J. Hughes, 82, of Cascade, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at 5:40 p.m. at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade. Friends and relatives of Cletus may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a wake service will be held at 4 p.m. and Knights of Columbus rosary at 6 p. m. Services for Cletus will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Temple Hill, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery, Temple Hill.
Cletus was born Feb. 23, 1928, in Jones County, Iowa, son of Henry Patrick and Marcella (Callahan) Hughes. He was a graduate of the former St. Martin's High School in Cascade. On May 28, 1951, he was united in marriage to Erna M. Girouex. Cletus farmed in the Jones, Jackson, Dubuque and Delaware counties. He was then a Real Estate broker and owned and operated Hughes Realty, and was a master appraiser.
He was a member of St. Peter's Parish in Temple Hill, Cascade Knights of Columbus Council 930, Iowa Board of Realtors, and a past member of the Jones County Pork Producers and the Jones County Beef Producer.
Cletus served on the Dubuque County Compensation Board, and was a friend of Bill W.
He is survived by two sons, James Hughes of Cascade and Mark Hughes of Mount Vernon; one grandson, Billy James Hughes; and two brothers, Milton (Rosalie) Hughes of Cascade and Loras (Sally) Hughes of Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Erna Hughes on July 5, 2000; one son, Bill Hughes in November 1982; one sister, Beth Gerken; and a brother, Alfred Hughes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Camp Courageous of Monticello or the Alfred Hughes Memorial at Divine Word Seminary, Epworth.
