Hugh W. Landa, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his sons, Wayne (Julie) Landa, Keith (Laurie) Landa and Craig (Christine) Landa; his daughter, Dawn (Bill) Walters; sister, Kathryn (Ray) Parker; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Hugh was born on the family farm near Williamsburg, Iowa, on June 3, 1928, the son of Rasmus "Ross" and Ethel (Groves) Landa. At age 16, he graduated from Williamsburg High School. On Jan. 14, 1951, he married Elaine Ewoldt in Cedar Rapids. Hugh honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Hugh owned and operated Landa Painting for 35 years.
He enjoyed bowling, gambling, working in his garden and watching westerns. Hugh also was an avid reader and card player.
Hugh and Elaine made many great memories traveling, especially to the islands in the Caribbean and to Alaska.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elaine; daughter, Diane; and brother, Curtis (Dorothy) Landa.
Memorials are suggested to Junior Achievement of Eastern Iowa.
