Huerter, Elmer Louis
Elmer Louis Huerter, 91, formerly of Anamosa, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Bay Pines VA Health Care System in Bay Pines, Fla. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Anamosa. Father David O'Connor will officiate at the service along with Deacon Dennis Mulherin (nephew) of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Cedar Rapids. Burial will be at the St. Joseph's Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 5, at the Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa. A Scripture service will begin at 3:30 p.m., before visitation at the funeral home.

Surviving is his wife, Lorraine of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two daughters, Elaine Huerter (Lou Molnar) of Tampa, Fla. and Carlene (Don) Hooley of Bradenton, Fla.; grandson, Mark (Martha) Bailey of Seminole, Fla.; and great-grandson, Alan Bailey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and six brothers.
Elmer Louis Huerter was born Nov. 26, 1921, in Kelley, Kan. He was the son of Jacob and Margaret Kongs Huerter. Elmer attended school in Kelley, Kan. He served in the Navy in World War II. Elmer owned and operated the Anamosa Locker Plant with his brother John for more than 12 years. Along with his wife, Lorraine they also owned Huerter's Diaryana Drive-In and Christmas Tree Sales in Anamosa for 35 years. Elmer also drove a charter bus for Chartered Coaches in Cedar Rapids. After retirement, the couple moved to Florida were Elmer worked part time for the St. Petersburg Times and Orange Blossom Groves in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Elmer was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre, riding motorcycles, bowling, watching his children and grandchildren at their sporting events, dancing, going out for catfish dinner with his brothers, Ray and John on Friday nights, road trips, spending summer back in Iowa with his family, family get-togethers, antique John Deere Tractors, lawn mowers and old cars, reading naval aircraft history books and playing dominoes.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friends, he will be missed dearly by those closest to him.
