Huebner, Wayne E.
Wayne E. Huebner, 83, of Marengo, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, following a short illness. Private family graveside services will be held Friday at the Nevada Cemetery, Nevada, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with military honors conducted at 7 p.m.
Wayne is survived by a granddaughter, Hollie Waterbury and husband Chris of Marengo; a grandson, Jayson Huebner, stationed in Italy; three great-grandchildren, Ellie, Ajay and Andon Waterbury; a nephew, Kent Sorensen of Nevada; and a daughter-in-law, Angie Huebner of Marengo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, L. Wayne and Scott, a sister, Geraldine Sorensen; and a niece, Linda Sorensen.
Wayne Earl Huebner was born on July 24, 1926, in Nevada, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Bertha Johannsen Huebner. He received his education in the Nevada schools and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean conflict. Upon his discharge from the military, he was employed as a technician with GT&E General Telephone for many years. Wayne was a member of the Marengo American Legion Post #76.
