Kenneth Lloyd Hudachek was born Jan. 24, 1942, in Iowa City, son of Maynard and Kathleen (Larew) Hudachek. He graduated from Lone Tree High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1963. On May 4, 1963, he married Katherine Wolford in Lone Tree. A few years later, in 1966, Ken became a member of the Iowa City Fire Department serving the Iowa City community for over 20 years, until retirement in 1989.
Outside of work, Ken had many hobbies; he was a HAM radio operator for many years, enjoyed camping, fishing and golf. In the mid 1970s, with his family, he became interested in BMX racing, a hobby which put him in the position to help with the design and construction of the Hawkeye BMX raceway. After his time with the ICFD, Ken and Kathy began attending auctions and sparked a passion for collecting and selling antiques which they have enjoyed together even recently.
Ken's family includes his wife, Katherine; daughter, Kris Duncan (Tricia Slade) of Iowa City; son, Kevin Hudachek (Debby) of Ankeny; grandchildren, Jackie, Allison, Ryan, Logan, Grace and Ella; and sister, Pat Hudachek (partner, JoAnne Dearborn) of Cashiers, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Donald.
