Hubbard, Patricia Marie
Patricia Marie Hubbard, 76, passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, in Cedar Rapids. Pat fought her brief battle with cancer as she lived her life, surrounded by an army of family and friends.
Patricia was born on Oct. 8, 1935, to George W. and Pauline M. (Shook) Curry in Monmouth, Ill. Patricia moved to Des Moines, Iowa, along with her family and later moved to Cedar Rapids, and graduated from McKinley High School. While in high school, she found the love of her life, Ken Hubbard. Ken and Patricia were married on Sept. 11, 1954.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Ken of 57 years; children, Pam (Larry) Cope of Marion, Peggy Hubbard, Leslie (Steve) Hess, both of Cedar Rapids, Penny (Derek) Colton of Oklahoma, Kevin Hubbard of California; 15 grandchildren; 8 ½ great-grandchildren; four sisters, Carolyn O'Donnell, Sandy (Al) McEnany, Gloria (Dennis) Cargin, Kathy (Jim) Gusta; and one brother, Bill (Sue) Curry.
Patricia worked for veterinarians for 13 years, on the board of directors of Cedar Valley Humane Society for eight years, executive director Cedar Valley Humane Society 27 years, on the board of directors and officer of Iowa Federation of Humane Societies for 13 years. She retired in 2001 and then was a part time bus attendant for the Cedar Rapids School District. She dedicated her life to helping animals, kids, elderly relatives and anyone she encountered in need.
