Hubbard Jr., Hoover 'Hub'
Hoover “Hub” Hubbard Jr., 86, of Heritage Nursing and Rehab, died there Tuesday, March 22, 2011, after a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Burial, with military rites: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Survivors include a brother, Kenneth (Patricia) of Cedar Rapids; and a stepson, Jerry (Pat) Davis of Gurnee, Ill. He is also survived by four nieces, Pam (Larry) Cope and Peggy Hubbard, both of Marion, Penny (Derek) Colton of Edmond, Okla., and Leslie (Steve) Hess of Cedar Rapids; one nephew, Kevin Hubbard of California; and several stepnieces and stepnephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother.
Hub was born June 5, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Hoover and Margaret Benjamin Hubbard Sr. He married Ardis L. Kelley on Oct. 10, 1959, in Cedar Rapids. She died in 2004. Hub was the business agent for Local Union 43 and was presented with the Union's Gold Card for over 50 years of membership. He retired in 1982.
He was a member of the VFW, Eagles Club, Moose Lodge, board of directors for the International Laborers Union, the All Iowa Fair Fair board of directors, as well as proudly serving in the Army during World War II.
Hub enjoyed car racing, especially NASCAR, going to races all over the U.S., going to the casino, traveling and time he spent with his many friends and beloved family.
“The family thanks Dr. David Vandedbosch, West Ridge Care Center, Heritage Nursing Center and St. Luke's Hospice for their care; his nieces, Pam, Peggy, Penny and Leslie who helped with the care and love that Uncle Hoover required; and also to the many friends who crossed his path throughout the Unions and NASCAR racing circles. “There was only one “Hub.”
Memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer's Foundation in Hub's memory.
