Hubbard, James E.
James E. Hubbard, 57, of Coralville, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at home following a sudden heart ailment. The family will greet friends Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Lensing's Oak Hill Funeral Service, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville. James chose to be cremated with burial at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the James E. Hubbard Educational Scholarship Fund c/o UI Community Credit Union, 1151 Second St., Coralville, IA 52241.
James was born Oct. 20, 1952, in Blytheville, Ark. He was raised in Osceola, Ark., where he graduated from high school, later moving to Iowa City to attend the University of Iowa. He was united in marriage to Deborah R. Reynolds on Sept. 11, 1972, in Iowa City. They recently celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary.
James had been employed at Procter & Gamble as a production technician and a line manager until his retirement in 2008.
James valued the importance of education and the opportunities it can provide. His family was poor, but when James discovered the public library as an adolescent he became a voracious reader. He was a history buff and loved to read books on finance. He had a keen memory and unquenchable thirst for knowledge. James was always kind and generous.
James is survived by his wife, Deborah; their three children, Karamoko (Christine Boge) Hubbard, Faraji Hubbard and Asale Hubbard, all of Coralville; his granddaughter, Delores Kamille Hubbard; and six siblings, John, Gloria, Harold, Essex, Willie and Denise.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Brenda.
