Hoyt, Michael Francis
Michael Francis Hoyt died peacefully at home Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at the age of 58, surrounded with the love of his family and friends. Per Michael's request, a casual celebration of his life will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, at Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City, where the family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until service time. A reception will follow the service at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Ave. Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will be held at a later date.
Mike was born Oct. 28, 1955, to James and Doris (Hipp) Hoyt. He grew up in Oxford and spent his entire life in the Oxford and Tiffin area. Mike worked numerous places in his lifetime, but no matter where he worked, he always had his hand in some type of construction, he loved building.
Mike married Nancy Dostal on Jan. 2, 1982, in Maquoketa, Iowa. Together they raised their three children on an acreage outside of Tiffin.
Mike loved being a father. He gave his children guidance, support and unconditional love. He loved being “papa” to his grandchildren. He loved teaching all kids how to do new things. He loved starry nights, campfires and being at one with nature. Mike lived a very active life.
Mike is survived by his wife; three children, Ryan (Emily), Jessica (fiance Joshua Wachendorf) and Amber (Brian) Reinertson; his two grandchildren, Maddilyn and Jackson; and many more family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Burt and Zelda Dostal; a granddaughter, Jade; and his brother, James Hoyt.
Cancer has taken away his life on earth - however, it will never take away his spirit. The lessons he has shown his family and friends about loving, living life and counting your blessings, will carry us forward.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Michael Hoyt Memorial Fund.
