Howard W. Stiegelmeyer, 83, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Vinton, died Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.
Private graveside services will be in Bishop Cemetery, Amana.
Howard was born April 9, 1934, in Benton County to Roy L. and Iola (Rice) Stiegelmeyer, and graduated from Vinton's Lincoln High School in 1951.
He served as Benton County emergency director for 22 years.
He enjoyed fly-fishing, turning wooden pens and pencils, woodworking and collecting recipes, which he liked to prepare for his family.
He was united in marriage to Ellen Hedges on June 1, 1958, in Marengo.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen of Cedar Rapids; his son, Loren Stiegelmeyer of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Kelsey and Drew Stiegelmeyer; his sister, Beverly (LaVerne) Beener of Hinsdale, Ill.; his sister-in-law, Rita Stiegelmeyer of Goose Creek, S.C.; and his half brother, Steven (Mary) Stocks of Grimes.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roy Lee Stiegelmeyer.
