Howard Sladek, 88 of Lee’s Summit, Mo., passed away peacefully Friday, July 29, 2022.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, Mo. A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the Mass.
Born Sept. 3, 1933, to John E. and Rose A. Sladek in Iowa City, Iowa. Howard received a B.A. from St. Ambrose University in 1955. He had a distinguished career with the Social Security Administration beginning in 1956, serving in the Kansas City Region. During his tenure, Howard served in a number of capacities including area director for the State of Iowa in Des Moines from 1974-87 and as the assistant regional commissioner in Kansas City from which he retired in 1998.
Howard is survived by his wife of 66 years, Edith; daughter, Linda Barlow (Gene); son, Stephen; grandsons, Adam and Josh (Rachel); great-granddaughter, Ruth; sisters, Arlene and Jane; and brother, John.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Esther.
Burial service will be held at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Cosgrove, Iowa, at a later.
