Howard Richard Miller 90, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Nov. 24, 2022, at the Solon Nursing Care Center.
Howard was born in Dayton, Ohio on Oct. 4, 1932, to Leon and Sadie Miller. After graduating from Springboro High School, his life adventures began. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific, during the Korean conflict.
Upon returning to Ohio, he married Charlotte Perry in 1956, and graduated from the University of Dayton with a degree in industrial engineering. Howard spent his career at NCR in Dayton and they eventually moved to Cedar Rapids, where he worked at Rockwell Collins until he retired in 1995.
Howard and Charlotte enjoyed traveling and seeing the world. After they retired, they lived in Kentucky and Georgia making memories and meeting many wonderful friends along the way.
They eventually returned to Iowa where they enjoyed golfing, bowling and were fun to watch when they danced.
Howard was a member of many organizations throughout his life including the Jaycees, Kiwanis and the Rotary Club. He was the founding Scout Master of Troop 560 in Cedar Rapids.
In the past several years, Howard loved his life at Melrose Meadows in Iowa City where he met so many wonderful friends and enjoyed the activities they offered there. In 2021, Howard participated in the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. and had the honor of placing the wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Solider.
Howard is survived by his sons, Rick (Nancy) and Greg (Susan); daughter, Sue (Jeanne); his grandchildren are: Melissa Tvedte (Ben), Alex Miller (Sarah), Nick Miller (Sabrina) and Casey Miller (Elizabeth); and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte; his sister, Ethel Cruzan; his brother, John; and his parents.
9A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Lensing’s Oak Hill (210 Holiday Rd., Coralville, IA 52241). Memorial donations for Howard will be distributed to Scout Troop 560 and the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight and can be mailed to 3786 Cottage Reserve Rd., Solon, IA 52333.
