Howard U. Moss, 89, passed away Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, peacefully in his home after a strong fight with cancer. Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Dennis Johnson. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.
Howard was born Dec. 25, 1927, to Howard and Trula Moss, in Cedar Rapids. He attended McKinley High School. In January 1946, he joined the Navy and served two years. He was employed by Iowa Electric Light and Power for 37 years. On May 8, 1948, he married Arlene Hollister in Cedar Rapids. They raised four sons together.
Howard is survived by three sons, Howard (Terry) of West Branch, Rick (Kathi) of Cedar Rapids and Gary (Joy) of Farmington, Ill.; a sister, Alta (Ray) Depa; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Arlene; his parents; son, Steve Moss; great-grandson, little Cory; and a brother, Walter Moss Sr.
Howard retired from Iowa Electric in 1984 and traveled a little with Arlene. He also spent time with his grandchildren and their activities. He enjoyed golfing and rooting for the CUBS!
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ghosh Foundation or UnityPoint Hospice (St. Luke's)
