Howard "Howie" Evans Ihns, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a courageous battle with ALS. Services: 2 p.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home by the Rev. Mark Osterhaus. Friends may visit with the family after noon Friday at the funeral home.
Howie is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Matthew; daughter, Megan (Zak) Valenta; five grandchildren, Logan, Braxton, Alexaundra, Maddox and Lincoln, all of Cedar Rapids; brother, William (Barb) Ihns of Massillon; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.
Howard was born June 24, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, the son of William and Lena Fountain Ihns. He married Nancy Wahe on Nov. 25, 1972, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Howie worked at Terrex Incorporated for 13 years retiring in 2006.
Howie enjoyed hunting, playing billiards and was a Jack Daniels Tennessee Squire. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
