Howard "Ed" Hurt, 86, of Center Point, Iowa, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Private family funeral service will be held Thursday, Dec. 31, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial will follow Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. As mandated by proclamation, social distancing must be practiced, which requires a limited number of people to be allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of face masks or shields is required.
Surviving are his children, Mitchell Hurt of Central City, Iowa, Mark (Jill) Hurt of Marion, Iowa, Lora (Phil) Nielsen of Central City, Iowa, and Linda (Bruce) Carr of Floyd, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Shelby, Derek, Autumn, Dylan, Mason, Meghan, Justin, Hannah, Josiah and Brodie; 15 great-grandchildren and one on the way; two brothers, Allen Hurt of Central City, Iowa, and Glen (Marie) Hurt of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Darlene "Dolly" Hurt.
Ed was born Oct. 1, 1934, in Marion, Iowa. He was the son of Howard and Hazel (Miles) Hurt. Ed proudly served in the U.S. Naval Reserve, he then married Darlene Joan "Dolly" Thompson on June 12, 1955, in Marion, Iowa. The couple lived in Ft. Benning, Ga., while he was in the Army and then moved back to Marion. In 1964, the couple bought a farm near Center Point, Iowa. Ed was employed in the maintenance department at Rockwell Collins until he retired in December of 1991.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, woodworking, playing pool, hosting the Lighthouse Academy Volleyball Team and supported all of his grandchildren's activities. But the thing Ed treasured most was the time spent with his family and loved ones. Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be missed dearly by those closest to him.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy.
The family would like to thank all the staff from Hospice of Mercy, and Pam, Lisa, Amanda and Joe for their love, support and tender care given to Ed.
