HOWARD "JACK" BURKHART

Howard "Jack" Burkhart, 81, of Vinton, died Wednesday, April 25, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2018, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton with Pastor Sue Thomas.
Military rites will be conducted at the church by the Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post 57 of Vinton. A memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton. A memorial fund has been established.
Howard Jack Burkhart was born Aug. 13, 1936, to Howard and Marie Agnes (Glass) Burkhart. He was united in marriage to Yvonne Lee Clare Frantz on Nov. 21, 1958, in Cedar Rapids. Jack served his country in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959. Jack farmed in the Vinton area for many years and was a grain inspector for the ASC office in Vinton.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and township trustee for Maplewood Cemetery in Vinton. Jack enjoyed hunting deer and turkey, fishing and watching the wildlife.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne of Vinton; his sons, Craig (Kathy McGuire) Burkhart of Woodside, Calif., Jeff (Becky Sausker) Burkhart of Orcutt, Calif., and Mark (Linda) Burkhart of Waukee; daughter, Valerie (Doug) Fisher of Reno, Nev.; his grandchildren, Andrew (Kayli) Burkhart and their daughter, Kenley, Ashley (Adrian) Meyer and Svetlana and Megan Fisher.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lyle; and his sister, Jean Wilson.
