Hovind, James 'Jim' B.
James “Jim” B. Hovind, 51, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, in his home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Dubuque, with burial to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW.
James was born Dec. 23, 1959, in Hazel Green, Wis., the son of Harold and Carol (Miller) Hovind. Jim owned and operated Jim's Auto Repair in Cedar Rapids for over 20 years. Over the years, he built many relationships in his business. He enjoyed working with his hands and his prized tools on various auto projects.
Jim liked to go fishing, hunting as well as riding his Harley.
Jim is survived by his father, Harold of Dubuque; fiancee, Beth Schafer; his children, Jeffery (Emily) Hovind, Justin Hovind, Jared Hovind, Nicolette (John) Taft and Trenten Schafer; two brothers, Mark (Amy) Hovind and Darryl (Carol) Hovind; one sister, Laura (Bill) Snaith; two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Zander; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his mother, Carol, who died Aug. 4, 2010.
