Hovey, Thomas Wayne

Thomas Wayne Hovey, 74, of 5800 Ely Rd. SW, Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, in Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. As per his wishes, there will be no services. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.

Thomas was born Oct. 9, 1935, on the family farm in Lime Springs, Iowa, to Edd and Bertha (Ramaker) Hovey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Bertha; and his brothers, Edward, Roger and Jerry.

Thomas married Darlene Troxel on April 2, 1956. They had four children, Kathy (Al) Goecke, Gary (Brenda) Hovey, Jackie (Mike) Cleppe and Joyce (Steve) Hogan; six grandchildren, Tiffany (Jim) Mally, Brian (Amy) Vogel, Stacy (Mickey) Hogan, Cortney and Tae Cleppe and Heather Hovey; great-grandchildren, Brook, Isaiah, Brittney, Aliyah, Asia, Shemuel, Lilly and Brody; and special family friend, Brian Sankot.

Thomas was employed at Quaker Oats for 35 years, retiring Nov. 1, 1991.

He loved the fishing trips to Canada and enjoyed fishing the Mississippi River as well as his hunting trips. He also enjoyed having the family camp outs in Clayton, Iowa, as well as his home in Cedar Rapids. He was a very kind and gentle man and loved by many.
