Houlahan, James Patrick
CEDAR RAPIDS - James Patrick Houlahan, 69, of Cedar Rapids, died at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Unity Center by the Rev. Brenda Ehret. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors. A visitation will be held Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Denise; children, Carmen, Bryan and Angela Houlahan, all of Cedar Rapids, and Theresa (Kyle) Nosley of Hiawatha; stepdaughter, Hayley Gorman of Ames; his siblings, Ricarda Patterson and Ann Houlahan, both of Coralville, Michele (Michael) Kelly of Van Horne, Linda (Dave) Bolsinger and Joeanita Houlahan, both of Cedar Rapids, Terrance Houlahan of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Tom (Terri) Houlahan of Beloit, Wis.; six grandchildren, Felicia, Autumn and Quinn Houlahan, Nathan and Noah Nosley and Kaelyn Hoambrecker; and one great-granddaughter, Baylee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Lynn Houlahan; grandson, Elijah Mitchell; and stepson, Adam Gorman.
Jim was born June 30, 1941, in Waterloo, to Richard and Anita Houlahan. He married Denise on Sept. 25, 1993. Jim was an Army veteran; a member of the Hawkeye Bicycle club, NARFE, and a 37-year friend of Bill W.
Jim retired three times; first from the U.S. Postal Service after 28 years, serving as the director of mail processing; then real estate sales at Iowa Realty; and finally from the College Community Transportation Department.
Memorials may be directed to the family or to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
