Hoth, Doris Sue 'Giittinger'

Doris Sue “Giittinger” Hoth, 84, of Nebraska City, Neb., formerly of Marion, passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at the Ambassador in Nebraska City.

Doris Sue Giittinger was born Feb. 7, 1929, in Nehawka, Neb., to Fred and Helen (Webber) Giittinger. After Doris graduated from the Talmage High School in 1946, she attended and graduated from Commercial Extension Business College in March 1948. She went to work for an automotive supply company as their secretary in Omaha, Neb. On Feb. 5, 1961, Doris and Eugene Hoth were united in marriage at the Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha. They had lived in Lincoln, Neb.; Bunker Hill, Ind.; and Great Falls, Mont., while Eugene was in the armed services. After Eugene retired, they moved from Nebraska City to Marion, to be closer to Eugene's family. Doris went to work part time at Petroleum Equipment in Marion.

Doris was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion, Elk's Lodge #251 in Cedar Rapids, which she was Elk of the Year in 2006-2007, VFW Auxiliary of Cedar Rapids, American Legion Post #298 Auxiliary of Marion and the Queen Ester Chapter #1 Order of Eastern Star in Nebraska City. She held many offices and was active in many events, especially those involving Veterans. In August 2011, Doris moved into the Morton House in Nebraska City, and in November 2013, she moved in the Ambassador in Nebraska City, due to her health.

Doris was preceded by her parents; brother, Richard Giittinger who passed away in Vietnam in 1967; and husband in 1984.

Survivors of Doris include her daughter, Pamela (Jerry) Oneal of Smith, Nevada; grandchildren, Tyler Janssen of Hiawatha, Jordan Zimmerman of Marion, Crystal Zimmerman of Smith, Nev. and Zakary Strivling of Smith, Nev.; great-grandchildren, Bayleigh Janssen, Elaina Sanders and Isaiah Zimmerman; special niece (daughter of Richard Giittinger), Linda Giittinger Edmonds of Knoxville, Tenn.; cousins, Pat Giittinger and Sally Giittinger; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives; and friends.

Visitation and family greeting friends will start Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time at Peterson Mortuary.

A Celebration of the Life of Doris Sue Hoth Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m.Wednesday at the Peterson Mortuary Chapel in Nebraska City, Neb. The burial of ashes will be held at a later date at the Wyuka Cemetery, Nebraska City, Neb.

Memorials are suggested to the choice of the family.
