Hotchkiss, Dorothy I.
CEDAR RAPIDS - Dorothy I. Hotchkiss, 87, of 3414 Shasta Dr. NE, passed away Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church. The Rev. Phil Thompson will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, with a wake service beginning at 5 p.m.
Surviving to honor her memory are three sons, Steve (Rose) Hotchkiss of McGregor, Bruce (Colleen) Hotchkiss of Clive and Craig (Deborah) Hotchkiss of Toddville; a daughter, Michele (Dave) Greenwood of Bettendorf; nine grandchildren, Michael Hotchkiss, Allan (Carrie) Hotchkiss, Katherine Fanter, Richard (Sonja) Hotchkiss, Kimberly (Aaron Schulze) Hotchkiss, Kristin Hotchkiss, Kara (Alex) Drum, Lindsey (Edward) Brezenski and Brett Greenwood; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia (Edward) Adams of Cedar Falls; niece, Tonja Adams of Appleton, Wis.; three nephews, Mike, Scott and Greg Morris; and brother-in-law, Harold Morris of Kansas City, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald; a sister, Norma; and an infant brother at birth.
Dorothy was born Nov. 15, 1922, in Webster City, Iowa, to Guy and Ida (Johnson) Trout. She married Gerald R. Hotchkiss on Feb. 19, 1943, in Iowa City. He passed away in 1996. Dorothy was a registered nurse at the University of Iowa and the Parish nurse at St. Pius X Catholic Church, charter member of St. Pius X, and a member of PEO. She loved playing in her numerous bridge groups and was a very loyal fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
In her early years she loved to travel, play golf, and bowl. She enjoyed her home in McGregor and boating on the Mississippi River. She looked forward to her fishing trips to Canada with her husband, Gerald, and son, Steve.
Dorothy was always there for her family and friends whenever needed. Her caring, compassionate ways and thoughtfulness will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
