Horton, Anna Margaret
Anna Margaret Horton, 96, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call one hour before the service Friday at the chapel. Inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Ann was born Oct. 16, 1916, in Lakenan, Mo., the daughter of James Gentry and Alta Kellogg. She married Kenneth Horton on Aug. 23, 1941, in Kirksville, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1959.
Ann was very active in her church, St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She was a member of Women's Club, Daughters of the American Revolution and Kings Daughters organizations. She was an avid Bridge player, belonging to several bridge groups, followed many professional sport teams, and enjoyed traveling with family and friends.
Survivors include her son, Larry Horton, and daughter, Jean (David) Close, both of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jennifer (Shawn) Sweeney of Cedar Rapids, Alisha Coghlan of Marion, Michael Horton of Cedar Rapids, Matthew (Kasia) Close of Greenville, S.C., and Robert Close and Kellie Close, both of Denver, Colo.; and great-grandchildren, Krissy Horton and Bryton Coghlan of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Francis Coen; and brother, Kenneth Kellogg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of your choice.
