Hora, Rickey Lee
Rickey Lee Hora, 63, of Hiawatha, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Celebration of Life will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Visitation will be from noon until service time Sunday. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
Rickey was born Nov. 21, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Howard and Lyla Fae (Schnepp) Hora. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1966. Rick worked as a union carpenter for Local 308 for many years, with most of his years as a superintendent for Blahnik Construction. His AutoCAD skills, as well as general construction knowledge, were greatly appreciated by the staff at Blahnik's. Following his retirement, Rick remained interested in the construction business. He was always available to share his expertise with his many friends and co-workers.
He enjoyed golfing, NASCAR, participating in Drum and Bugle Corps, playing music and being on the beach. Rick also loved to travel. He incorporated his interests in travel by attending NASCAR races, “shelling” at Fort Myers Beach, Fla., as well as attending the national competitions of the Drum and Bugle Corps.
He is survived by his loving companion, Tracey A. Mayland; his father, Howard Hora, (Helen Mihal); a brother, Ron (Barbara) Hora; three sisters, Rita Beard, Renee Petersen and Roxanne (Tony) Millburn; his extended family, Korrey (Andrea) Mayland, Kiley and Sydney Mayland; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved Buster, the cat.
He was preceded in death by his mother; his brother, Randy; and a sister, Rhonda Daugherty.
