Hopper, Ruth E.
Ruth E. Hopper, 96, a resident of Winslow House, Marion, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2013. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Private Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Darwin (Jackie) Hopper of Springville and Debra Grinsell of Marion; four granddaughters, Cherise, Joyce, Jeni and Dori; 12 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; and siblings, George Hartz, Leo Hartz and Audrey Schminke.
Ruth was born June 21, 1917, in Blairstown, the daughter of Harvey and Elsie (Siek) Hartz. She graduated from Newhall High School and married Robert Hopper. She and Robert were married for 64 years. Ruth worked for Sears as a sales associate for 17 years and also helped Robert on the family farm. She was a 4-H leader and enjoyed fishing, camping and was proud to have traveled to Alaska seven times.
