Hoopes, David Charles
David Charles Hoopes, 66, of Carpentersville, Ill., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Oct. 28, 2012, in his home. There were no services; his body was cremated. A party to celebrate his life will be Sunday.
Survivors include his wife, Penny; children, Tamara Howell (Hanover Park, Ill.) and Tonja Hoopes (Northglenn, Colo.); sisters, Mary Crimmins (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Barbara Mattison (Cedar Rapids) and Lisa Moore (Valencia, Calif.); and other survivors, Wayne Slager (Vinton), Nancy Farrand (Elk Grove Village, Ill.), Jimmie Fitzjarrell (Woodridge, Ill.), Andrew Howell (Hanover Park, Ill.), Matthew Howell (Hanover Park, Ill.), Joshua Howell (Hanover Park, Ill.) and Aaron Howell (Hanover Park, Ill.)
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome B. Hoopes and Anne Hoopes; and a sister, Linda Peal.
Born in Evanston, Ill., on June 16, 1946, he was adopted by Jerome and Anne Hoopes at 2 months of age and raised in Arlington Heights, Ill., and Cedar Rapids. David graduated from Washington High School, Cedar Rapids, in 1964, and married Penny Slager on April 16, 1967. He worked as a microfilm/computer programmer for 45 years, retiring in 2008, and became a professional Santa.
A memorial fund will be set up in the near future.
