Honzik, Lumir J.
Lumir J. Honzik, 95, of North Branch, Minn., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday morning, June 19, 2010, at The Villages of North Branch. Funeral mass: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Christopher Podhajsky. Burial: St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West, 1604 J St. SW, Cedar Rapids, where a rosary begins at 4 p.m.
Lumir is survived by a son, Ed (Marty) Honzik of Isanti, Minn.; four grandchildren, Clark (Diane) Honzik of Andover, Minn., and their children, Ethan, Alaina and Levi, Nicole (John) Franks of Minneapolis, Minn., Karmen Wasson of Cedar Rapids and her children, Kelsey Ray and Alyssa, and Kristene Honzik of Las Vegas, Nev.; three stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peg; son, Ray; sister, Julia; and brother, Oscar.
Lumir Joseph Honzik was born Dec. 13, 1914, in Walford, the son of Frank and Katerina (Egermajer) Honzik. He was raised in “Czech Village” in Cedar Rapids. On Nov. 17, 1937, in married Vlasta “Peg” Tomes in Cedar Rapids. Lumir and Peg made their home in Cedar Rapids for many years. He was employed as a tool design engineer for Link-Belt Speeder Corporation. Lumir was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church for over 80 years and sang in the church choir. He was a member of the Eagles Club, enjoyed fishing, golfing and was an avid bowler.
In the fall of 2008, he moved to Grace Point Crossing in Cambridge, Minn., to be closer to his son, Ed. Since this past December, Lumir was a resident of The Villages of North Branch.
