Homire, Lloyd R.

loyd R. Homire, 84, of Cedar Rapids, went home to be with the Lord after his struggle with cancer, Saturday, July 21, 2012. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at King of Kings Lutheran Church by the Rev. Hauser. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 5 p.m. and after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.

Survivors include his wife, Blanche, of 65 years; children, Rodney (Donna) Homire of Mesquite, Texas, Patsy (Robert) Brolling of San Antonio, Texas, Sherri (David) Justice, Rhonda (Randy) Crouse, and Terri (Andy) Shifflett, all of Cedar Rapids, and Lori (Gary) Nelson of Owattona, Minn.; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and a granddaughter, Dawn.

Lloyd was born June 17, 1928, in Elberon, to Rudy and Freida Homire. He married Blanche Weisert on Sept. 15, 1946, in Mount Auburn. He farmed in the Keystone area until 1960 and then owned and operated service stations in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church. He was a great handyman and enjoyed woodworking and made lots of furniture and memories. He also loved gardening and flowers.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all who knew him.

The family would like to thank his doctors and nurses as well as the staff at St. Luke's Hospice.

A memorial fund has been established.
