Holtz-Bahnsen, Alice J.
Alice J. Holtz-Bahnsen, 96, of Wyoming, Iowa, died Friday, June 18, 2010, at the Anamosa Care Center, Anamosa. Celebration of her life services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Zion American Lutheran Church, Wyoming, with Pastor Bob Wessels officiating. Public viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church and family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming, Iowa. Lahey Funeral & Cremation Services, Wyoming. is in charge of arrangements.
Alice Jeanetta Rathje was born on June 6, 1914 in Nashua, Iowa, daughter of Jurgen and Henrietta (Martensen) Rathje. She graduated in 1932, from Wyoming High School. She married Raymond Holtz on Sept. 12, 1935, at the Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming, Iowa. Raymond died Sept. 3, 1984. On Nov. 12, 1988, she married Lafayette “Lafe” Bahnsen at the Lutheran Church in Wyoming, Iowa. Lafayette died Dec. 24, 1991.
She was a homemaker and had worked at Miller's Drugstore in Wyoming, for a summer before her marriage.
She was a member of the Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Sarah Circle.
Survivors include one son, Richard R. (Karen) Holtz of Bettendorf; four stepchildren, Laurel (Marcia) Bahnsen of Onslow, Luanne (Allan) Heitshusen of South Amana, Laverne (Jan) Bahnsen of Center Point, and Louis (Becky) Bahnsen of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; two grandchildren, David (Nicole) Holtz of Alexandria, Minn., and Gretchen Holtz of Bettendorf; eight stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Maddie, Jack and Logan Holtz; and
six stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Herman; and one sister, Anna.
Memorials may be given to Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming.
