Holmes, Dorothy Mae
Dorothy Mae Holmes, 87, died Wednesday evening, March 14, 2012, at Crestview Acres Care Center Marion following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, Monticello, where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. The Rev. Ellery Dykeman will officiate at the services. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, is in charge of arrangements.
Surviving are three grandchildren, Kip Wilson of Amber and Hattie Holmes and Ameila Holmes, both of Central City; four great-grandchildren, Dylan, Kaydance and Trevin Wilson and Alayna Kula; a sister-in-law, Delores Neal of Wyoming; several nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Kevin, in 2011; and two brothers, Paul and Floyd Neal.
Dorothy was born to Charlie and Meta (Ladehoff) Neal at the family home in rural Scotch Grove on May 12, 1924. She attended rural schools and graduated from the Monticello High School with the class of 1944. Dorothy was employed at John McDonald Hospital in housekeeping from 1945 until 1950. She married Chris Holmes in 1950 and the couple farmed in the Amber area. They later divorced.
Dorothy was a homemaker and love to crochet and go shopping. She was a member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church.
