Holmes, Andy
Andy Holmes, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center. Services: 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Jay Jentink. Visitation: 1 p.m. to service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; his children, Debra O'Neil, Andy Holmes Jr. and Edward Holmes; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Lester (Kit) Holmes; four sisters, Lina Chase, Mary Ross, Ruth Dietz and Minnie (Bill) Bullock; and several nieces and nephews.
Andy was born Feb. 6, 1928, the son of Lester and Lilly (Hall) Holmes, in Atkins, Iowa. He served with the United States Army during World War II. Andy married Linda Maire on Feb. 6, 1992. He worked for Midland Forge as a press operator, retiring after 34 ½ years of service.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in memory of Andy.
