Holly A. Hapgood, 60, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 11, 2023, after a long illness. Per Holly’s wishes, no visitation or funeral service will be held. Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family. A private family inurnment will be held at a future date.
Holly was the eldest of four children born to Gregory O. and Nancy (Horning) Hapgood, Sr. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Aug. 19, 1962. After graduating from Marion High School, she attended Iowa Wesleyan College before becoming a nanny, taking care of families in New York City and Cedar Rapids. Holly enjoyed world travel, letter writing, children, swimming, bike riding, and random acts of kindness. She valued love and world peace. Holly was so grateful for the loving care of her best friend, Eric Gavin, from 2014 until his passing in 2022, and for the profound kindness and support during the final stages of her illness by friend Dana Larson.
Holly is survived by her mother, Nancy; siblings, Heather, Greg (Deb Kleiman) and Hal (Kelly); nieces and nephews, Avery, Van, Carver and Chipper Novak, and Kate and Maggie Hapgood; her beloved cat, Pearl; and many extended family members.
Holly was preceded in death by her father.
Memorials may be directed to a charity of the giver’s choice.
