James Michael “Mike” Hollister Sr.
Mike passed away peacefully Monday, June 10, 2013, in the Hospice Unit at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, surrounded by his family.
Surviving Mike are his wife of 38 years, Karla VanWetzinga Hollister of Anamosa, Iowa; and his three sons, Jonah and Mike Hollister-Willis of Des Moines, Iowa, Anthony and Lynsey (Beck) Hollister of Amber, Iowa, and James Michael Hollister, Jr. of Anamosa, Iowa. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Donovan Griffith, Colt Hollister, and Kela Hollister.
Mike graduated with honors in 1984 from Hamilton Tech, Davenport, Iowa, earning an Associates of Science Degree which carried him all the way into employment at Rockwell International before being forced into early retirement due to health.
Mike enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, and was a car and motorcycle enthusiast. He also loved music and was a troop leader for Cub Scouts and was always available to assist in the various sports and music events his sons were involved with.He was quiet but friendly, and in his later years, he loved spending time with his family.
A man of accomplishments, we will deeply miss Mike.He will forever hold a place in our hearts.
Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa handled the arrangements.
Memorial services will be held June 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Davenport, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or the family.
A special thank you to the ICU at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, and the Hospice Care Unit. They were so good to Mike and our family. The Hospice Unit nurses were wonderful in helping Mike and us to understand and accept the transition.
