Holland, Twila J.
Twila J. Holland, 91, a longtime resident of Marion, who had been living with her daughter in Alburnett for the last seven months, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Funeral Service: 1 p.m. Monday, May 21, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Marion. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include her three children, Roberta Plate of Alburnett, David Bruce (Ophelia) Holland of Cobbtown, Ga., and Douglas M. (Annie) Holland of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one half brother, Robert (Virginia) Plummer of St. George, Kan.; and three half sisters, Martha (John) Powers of Wamego, Kan., Sandy Chandler of Manhattan, Kan., and Kathy (Ken) Schneider of Manhattan, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Susan; two brothers, two sisters and one half brother.
Twila was born June 7, 1920, in Fostoria, Kan., the daughter of Willard and Edith (Adams) Plummer. She graduated from a business college in Kansas and went to work as a telegraph operator for a railroad company in Burlington, Iowa, where she met her husband, David. Twila married David J. Holland on May 10, 1942. He died Sept, 10, 1987.
Twila was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Family was the greatest treasure in Twila's life, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial fund has been established in Twila's memory.
