Holder, Darrell W.
Darrell W. Holder, 51, of Ames, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A visitation will be held today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames, where funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Darrell Holder was born Sept. 23, 1958, in Ames, to William and Jeannette (Ball) Holder. He married Joni Jensen on June 14, 1980. He later married Tammy Ledet on March 8, 1997.
He had been employed for the city water departments in Cedar Rapids and Ames. He was a member and union steward with AFSCME.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, and football. He was a huge fan of NASCAR, Kansas City Chiefs and ISU sports. He loved children and was a “kid magnet.”
He is survived by his wife, Tammy Holder of Ames; two daughters, Amanda “Mandi” (Dustin) Schaefer, and their children, Anthony, Austin and Ashlyn, of Clarence, Mo., and Mallory Holder of Loveland, Colo.; his mother, Jean Weldon of Cedar Rapids; sister, Irma Bell of Colfax; brother, John Holder of Cedar Rapids; stepchildren, Skyler and Shyanne Munson, both of Cedar Rapids; parents-in-law, Richard and Marsha Ledet of Nevada; and two brothers-in-law, Dana (Marti) Ledet of Ankeny and Hans Ledet of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his father, William J. Holder; grandparents; stepfather, Thomas Weldon; and brother-in-law, Michael Bell.
