Hogan, Ferne L.
Ferne L. Hogan, 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, following a long illness. Graveside Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg, Ill. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Survivors include a son, Richard E. Hogan Sr. of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Richard E. (Marci) Hogan Jr., Christopher M. Hogan and Kelly A. Hogan; great-granddaughter, Alexis Hogan; brothers, Beecher (Marge) Sexton of Galesburg, Ill., and Charles (Janet) Sexton of Sparks, Nev.; brother-in-law, Paul Downard of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
Ferne was preceded in death by her husband, Moris; brothers, Russel and Clifford Sexton; and sisters, Mildred (Bill) Happs, Vesper (Kenny) Gardner and Ruth Downard.
Ferne Louise was born Jan. 25, 1919, in Knoxville, Ill., the daughter of Harry and Mary (Allen) Sexton. She married Moris E. Hogan in 1940. She attended Knoxville High School and the Cottage Hospital Nursing School in Galesburg, Ill., graduating in 1965. She worked as a Registered Nurse for 22 years in Reno, Nev., and Galesburg, Ill., retiring in 1985.
Ferne volunteered at Cottage Corner, a second hand shop operated by Cottage Hospital, from 1985 until 2007. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and crocheting. She spent many hours in the kitchen cooking and baking for her family.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
