Hofer, Betty L.
Betty L. Hofer, 81, of Marion, died at home, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, by Certified Celebrant Jim Parton. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Betty is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ben; children, Rosemary (Greg Mein) Steepleton of Cedar Rapids, James (Sheri) Hofer of Lisbon, Susan Hofer of Marion and Wayne (Terri) Hofer of Hiawatha; brothers, Verle Pugh of Strawberry Point and Kenneth (Jerri) Whittle of Lebanon, Mo.; sisters, Anna Mae (Albert) Frederick of Strawberry Point and Barbara White of Adolphus, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Glenola Himmel and Dorothy Cook.
Betty was born Dec. 3, 1931, in Strawberry Point, to Glenn and Marjorie (Burington) Pugh. She married Ben Hofer on Aug. 23, 1950, in Elgin. She was employed at Rockwell Collins for over 21 years, retiring in 1987.
Betty liked camping, fishing, square dancing, spending time with her grandchildren and doing craftwork. She and Ben enjoyed playing pinochle at the Senior Center in Central City.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy.
The family would like to especially thank Kay, Annette, Barb, and Sarah of Hospice of Mercy for their compassionate care.
