Hof Jr., Carl F.
Carl F. Hof Jr., 76, of Gladbrook, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at his residence. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of memorial service. Cremation rights were accorded. Goettsch Funeral Home in Gladbrook has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Carl was born Nov. 11, 1934, to Carl F. and Lula (Messer) Hof Sr. in Randalia, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State Teachers College High School in Cedar Falls. Carl served his country in both the United States Army and Marines. He was united in marriage to Hazel J. Echart on Jan. 12, 1957, in Mason City. She died July 8, 2009. Carl owned and operated Fox Garage and Carl's Standard Station, both in Cedar Rapids. After moving to Gladbrook he was employed with SL Baumeier. He also operated the Lil Orbit Mini Doughnuts, traveling to many fairs.
Carl was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Lions Club, Masons, Eastern Star and the Shriners.
Carl will be missed by his three children, Sheryl (John) Sloss of Bolivar, Mo., Michele M. (Dave) Maddux of Grundy Center and David A. (Toni) Hof of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Evelyn Keel, Donna Jacobi, Carol Loshman, Phyllis (Stan) Donot and Jeannette (Art) Ruesch.
He will join his wife, Hazel; two sisters; and a brother, who died in infancy, in eternal life.
A memorial has been established in Carl's name.
