Hoekstra, Helen Huff
Helen Huff Hoekstra, 84, of Richland, died Sunday morning, June 2, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 10, 1929, in Lone Tree, Iowa, to Clarence J. and M. Ruth Mannatt Huff. Helen attended school in Solon and Richland and graduated from Keota High School in 1947. She married Claire “Pudge” Hoekstra in Richland on June 2, 1951. He died May 1, 2005. Helen and Pudge owned and operated Hoekstra Grocery from 1967 to 1990. She was a member of Richland Christian Church and Richland Women's Club.
Helen is survived by her sons, Bill Hoekstra (Jan) of Cedar Rapids and Tom Hoekstra (Renee) of Richland; two grandchildren, Alyssa and Trent both of Cedar Rapids; sisters-in-law, Ann Snyder (Junior) of Richland and Mary Hoekstra of Wilton; nieces; nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parent; husband; grandson, Travis; her brother, Clarence Huff Jr.; sister, Dorothy Zeman; and niece, Jane Ann Hill.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Richland Methodist with the Rev. Carl Benge and the Rev. Mark Clark officiating. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery. Visitation will open at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Gould Funeral Home in Richland, with the family present from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Memorials for projects to benefit the City of Richland may be left at the funeral home, church or mailed to Tom at P.O. Box 263, Richland, IA 52585.
