Hochstedler, Randy 'Herm' G.
Randy “Herm” G. Hochstedler, 55, of Kalona, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at his home following a long illness. A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Memory Gardens in Iowa City. Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona.
A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice.
Randy Gene Hochstedler was born Aug. 27, 1958, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Raymond (Hosty) and Muriel (Smalley) Hochstedler. He graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1976 and attended Kirkwood Community College. He was employed at Hochstedler Service Station for most of his life.
Herm enjoyed going to Iowa football games and cheering for the Yankees. He was an umpire for Little League games and for many years he ran the chains on the sidelines of the Mid-Prairie football games.
Survivors include four siblings, Ruth (Dave) Kelley of Kalona, Judy (Gary) Snyder of Riverside, Phyllis Hochstedler (Eric Dethmann) of North Liberty and Gary (Jayne) Hochstedler of Kalona; three nephews and one niece, Justin (Vicki) Deitrich, Ryan Miller, Jeff (Katie) Miller and Jill Kelley (Josh Mitchell); and great-nieces and great-nephews, Jace and Sarina Deitrich, Cameron Miller and Ayla Mitchell.
Preceding Randy in death were his parents; one brother, Dean Hochstedler; and two brothers-in-law, Jerry Deitrich and Dan Smith.
