Hochstedler, Mary L.
A celebration of life for Mary L. Hochstedler, 90, of Hills, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the Sharon Center United Methodist Church in rural Kalona with Pastor Doug Cue officiating. Burial will follow at the Sharon Center Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. Mary Hochstedler died Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at the Lone Tree Health Care Center following a brief illness.
Mary L. (Miller) Hochstedler was born Feb. 14, 1923, in Yoder, Kan., the daughter of Abner and Mabel (Schrock) Miller. She grew up in Kansas and was united in marriage to Robert Hochstedler on Dec. 24, 1944, in Iowa City. Mary was a member of Ladies of the Moose, Eagles and Hills Town and Country Club. She always looked forward to being with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids and she loved to quilt, making quilts for all her family. Mary was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan, loved playing cards with friends and family and her grandkids always looked forward to the cinnamon rolls she made. She enjoyed her winters in Arizona for many years.
Survivors include two children and spouses, Jerome “Jerry” (Judy) Hochstedler of Portland, Ore. and Bonnie (Don) Yeggy of Riverside; seven grandchildren and spouses, Samantha and Steve McCaskey (Portland, Ore.), Stefanie Pagel and friend Roger Whitehead (Portland, Ore.), Neil and Jennifer Hochstedler (Vancouver, Wash.), Ron and Kristi Yeggy (Riverside), Jerry and Jodi Yeggy (West Branch), Scott and Mandy Yeggy (Riverside) and Leslie and Jason Chown (Lone Tree); 20 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Maxine Miller of Kalona.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents; her husband, Robert Hochstedler; an infant son, Eugene Robert Hochstedler; two brothers, J. Claude and C.J. Miller; and four sisters, Elta Burkholder, Ruth Eash, Ethel Miller and Odena Hostetler.
