Hobart, Mabel E.
Mabel E. Hobart, 81, of Iowa City, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at the Solon Nursing Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers. a memorial fund has been established in Mabel's memory.

Mabel Eileen Lumpa was born Jan. 30, 1930, in rural Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Alvina (Niemeyer) Lumpa. She attended country schools until high school where she attended and graduated from City High School. She was united in marriage to Howard W. Hobart in 1953, in Kahoka, Mo.
Mabel has spent most of her life in this area, she had worked for Moore Business Forms, the former Hy-Vee store on Kirkwood Avenue and retired from the former Westinghouse, all in Iowa City. Mabel grew up on the farm, where she was proud to say that she worked hard, she could hold her own to anyone out there. She enjoyed the simple things in life, her gardening, flowers, visiting with her neighbors and most of all caring for her family. She was one that was more concerned for others than herself, always putting family and friends first!
Her family includes her four children, Pat (David) Hahn of Iowa City, Carol (Bill) Seastrom of Decatur, Mich., James (Beverly Jo) Hobart of Ely, and Jerry (Becky) Hobart of Cedar Rapids; 14 grandchildren, David, Jen, Lori, Kevin, Brian, Teresa, Jill, Jason, Josh, Jannelle, Jimmy, Shelby, Michael and Anna; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul (Phyllis) Lumpa of Monticello, and Wayne Lumpa of St. Charles, Mo.; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Mrs. Bob) Lumpa of Iowa City.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; brother, Bob; and a grandchild.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Mabel's family and her services.
