Hoag, Francis M.
Francis M. Hoag, 96, of Morton Grove, Ill., passed away Jan. 25, 2012, at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.
He was born May 30, 1915, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of William F. and Julia (Starbird) Hoag. He married Florence M. Henderson on Aug. 21, 1940, in Coggon, Iowa. She passed away July 23, 2006, in Peoria, Ill.
Surviving are two sons, Jacob H. Hoag of Chicago and Donn (Nece) Hoag DeShayne of Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jill M. Bryan of Grayslake, Ill.; his wife, Florence; baby daughter; and his parents.
Francis attended the Manchester schools, graduated from Iowa State University, and during World War II, served with the Army Air Corps on the island of Shemya in the Aleutian Islands.
He pursued a career as a city manager that spanned 40 years, serving the cities of Manchester, Iowa, Crystal Lake, Ill., Yankton, S.D., Junction City and Paola, Kan.
As a lifetime member of the International City/County Management Association, he regularly took part in its activities during his working years. After retiring from city service he and Florence resided in Peoria, Ill., for 22 years.
A memorial gathering for friends and relatives will be held Feb. 22 in Anamosa, Iowa.
