Hise, Tom
Tom Hise, 69, of Shellsburg, passed away peacefully in his home on Aug. 15, 2012, surrounded by his family. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Entrusted with the arrangements is Iowa Cremation.
He is survived by his wife, Jan of Shellsburg; two sons, Steev (Greta) of Tucson, Ariz., and Allan (Jeannette) of Dublin, Ireland; two sisters, Lynda (Jim) Barnes of Stryker, Ohio and Sarah (Mike) Berthold of Adrian, Mich.; two brothers, Jack Hise of Tullahoma, Tenn., and Ron (Kathryn) Hise of Worley, Idaho; two nieces, Allison Barnes and Jana Schutte; and two nephews, Michael Barnes and Jason Berthold.
The world became a weirder place on April 12, 1943, when Tom was born in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Lynn and Lillian (Kinney) Hise. Tom married Jan Crist on Dec. 7, 1974, in Delmar, Iowa. He worked over 32 years at Rockwell Collins as an electrical engineer, enjoying life to the fullest after retiring in 1998.
Tom's hobbies included canoeing, astronomy, photography, the SFFNet family and, most of all, he enjoyed amateur radio and the monthly lunch gatherings with his radio buddies.
Tom was one of a kind, keeping his off beat humor and love of the unconventional to the very end, and will be missed deeply by all who knew him.
Online condolences may be expressed at under obituaries.
