Hirtz-Hinrichs, Grace D.
Grace D. Hirtz-Hinrichs, 85, of Dyersville, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center, Dyersville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Noah Diehm will officiate.
Grace was born Nov. 16, 1927, in Worthington, the daughter of Frank and Ida (Greif) Schockemoel. She graduated from St. Paul High School and married Paul Hirtz on Jan. 7, 1947, and raised seven children together in Dyersville. She later married Marvin Hinrichs on May 7, 1983, in Coggon. Marvin preceded her in death in 2008.
Grace was an inventory clerk for the Ertl Toy Co. for 29 years, as well as being a farm wife and homemaker. Grace also waitressed at Ertl Lanes.
She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. Rose, the Dyer House, the Garden Club and Friends of the Library. Her hobbies included making porcelain dolls, reading, and dancing to country music.
Survivors include her children, Carol (LeRoy) Ruden of Dyersville, Neil (Mona Zaker) Hirtz of Massachusetts, Gary (Kathy) Hirtz of Durango, Greg Hirtz of Dyersville and Doug Hirtz of LaMirada, Calif.; two stepchildren, John (Pam) Hinrichs and Kathleen (Jim) Hall, both of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rachel Kelchen of Worthington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; a son, Jeff Hirtz; a daughter, Julie Wemmer; and siblings and in-laws: Laura Schockemoehl, Marion (Nick) Radloff, Harold (Florence) Schockemoehl, Stella (Joseph) Comer, LaVern (Stanley) Holub, Harriet (Ambrose “Sam”) Knepper, William (Magdaline) Schockemoehl and Ray Kelchen.
