Hindman, Leon V.
Leon V. Hindman, 76, of 405 Wiley Blvd. NW, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, in his home from a long illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids by the Rev. Phil Thompson. Burial: St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. A rosary will be held at 5 p.m.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Colleen; his children, Leon Hindman of Westminster, Colo., Laurie Hindman (Duane) Saari of Black Hawk, Colo., Cheryl Hindman (Cliff) of Allen, Texas, Donald Hindman of Towson, Md., John Hindman (Melanie) of Rock Hill, S.C., Kristine Sexton (Bill) of Ankeny, Iowa, Nick Hindman, Mark Hindman and Michael Hindman (Megan), all of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Carol Taylor of Sioux City, Iowa. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Jay Hindman; and a daughter, Anne Mildred Hindman.
Leon was born Oct. 2, 1933, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Claude and Mildred Sammons. He married Colleen Thibodeau on Feb. 1, 1956, in Sioux City, Iowa. Leon was employed with Rockwell Collins for 33 years as a systems analyst /circuit board designer, retiring in 1993. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, VFW and served in the Navy during the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing, camping, working in his shop, and spending time with his family and friends.
