Hillis Kenney, 91, passed away on December 2, 2024, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
A Life Celebration will be held from 1:30 to 4 pm Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Grace Christian Fellowship, 23456 County Road E-34, Anamosa. Service begins at 3 pm, and the family will greet friends from 1:30 to the time of service. Interment will be on a later date in Wilcox Cemetery. Hillis Delbert Kenney was born May 16, 1933, in Viola, the son of G.F. and Ruth (Beach) Kenney. He graduated from Viola High School. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. On August 7, 1960, he married Doris Baily.
Hillis worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for many years. After that he worked on agricultural machinery. He retired from Case IH, then worked for Scale Tec which he really enjoyed!
Hillis was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Lyle, Rolland, and Bill Kenney.
Hillis is survived by his wife Doris, his children, Steven (Rosemary) Kenney, Kentucky, Ann (Craig) Stewart, Des Moines, Donald (Kathy) Kenney, Mt. Vernon, and Christopher (Diane) Kenney, Anamosa, eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and his sister and five brothers.
Hillis loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, and he and Doris enjoyed season tickets and bowl games for many years. In 2003 they moved into a wonderful neighborhood at Fawn Creek Mobile Home Park. The neighbors that they had there loved on Hillis and Doris like they were family. Hillis and Doris moved to the Veteran’s Home in July and have made some good friends in the short time they have been there.
Dad knows and loves Jesus and took his family to church every Sunday so that they can know Jesus also. He and Doris have a wonderful church family at Grace Christian Fellowship in Fairview, IA.
